Torrance Coombs as Sebastian "Basch"
Mary and Basch disagree on what to do with Catherine's two younger sons, Henry and Charles. Basch wants to send them away in order to get them away from those who would harm them in the Palace but Mary wants them to stay in the Palace so that she can protect them herself. While out playing in the forest, the two boys go missing causing Mary to panic. But Basch explains that he has arranged the entire thing in order to take them somewhere safe. His plans are thwarted, however, when Clarissa kidnaps the two boys for real.
Lola goes to Paris in order to get her brother settle a debt at a gambling hall. She pays the debtor but he reveals that he also caught her brother stealing and that he demands something more. He demands that she pay him with her body. Luckily for her, Francis intervenes and wins her her freedom in a wager over cards. Lola comforts Francis and later they sleep together. Francis learns that his mother is soon to be executed and so he decides to return to court.
Nostradamus helps Catherine escape the tower by having her fake a suicide attempt. He intends for her to flee the castle and raise an army against Henry but Catherine refuses to leave knowing that her two sons have gone missing. Catherine is able to find them just moments before Clarissa attempts to have them commit mass suicide. Mary and Basch soon appear to try and persuade Clarissa from harming the two Princes. In the end, Mary strikes Clarissa on the back on the head with a rock, apparently killing her. Catherine is lead back to the tower but with the promise that Mary will look after Henry and Charles. Mary asks Basch to marry her immediately.
The ending scene involves two soldiers who have been tasked with burying Clarissa. Because of their sloth, they decide instead to roll her down a hill with digging a grave for her. Placing a cross at the top of her head.
I give this episode a 2/5. I think this was the very first episode of Reign where I was actually surprised by how well the sets looked - the background worked really well in my opinion (although it was really weird when they decided to make the casino middle eastern'd themed?). The last scene in particularly was fabulous! But I also think that this was the very first episode of Reign where I noticed just how bad the acting was especially out of the two male leads. Torrance Coombs always has this smirk on his face that makes him look like a complete jerk even during the scenes where he is suppose to be caring a genuine. Tony Regbo's eyebrows make him look way too innocent...even when he's sleeping with the woman he love's best friend??? Clarissa death was a bit of a cop out. Do I think she is actually dead? No. But her fake death at least was a bit of a cop out. Mary just strikes on the back of the head with a rock and it's Mary so it's not going to be a HULK SMASH kind of strike and she just falls to the ground. That's it. All dead. Clarissa's character went out of wack this episode. We've seen her bad before but this is the worst that she's gone so far. She snapped a woman's neck and threatened to kill two young boys. Still, I felt the change was too sudden - it kinda came out of no where and her motivations while obvious aren't that deep. Why does she have the Christian Bale Batman voice? They scarred her face not her vocals chords so I don't know why she talks in this rasping voice.
